American Bankers Association
June 2011 -- July 2015
Positions held: Public Relations Senior Assistant and Manager, Band 5 and Band 6

I started at the ABA right out of college as a senior assistant in public relations. The banking industry was under fire after the financial crisis of 2008. This created a heightened environment, making public relations and the industry's image a top association priority. I was drawn to gaining this crisis PR experience and couldn’t have been more fortunate to work for the industry’s largest trade association, representing banks of all sizes.

As a senior assistant, I developed PR plans, pitched events and stories to the media, wrote press releases and media advisories, planned and executed press conferences, acted as a social media strategist among ABA’s seven accounts in developing messaging and campaigns as well as creating a Social Media Competitive Tracker to produce quarterly reports for ABA’s board, comparing ABA to other key industry associations.

After a year and half, I was the youngest person to be promoted to public relations manager and roughly a year after that, I was promoted again in my department. I had my own set of eight internal clients who I worked with daily to foster their public relations needs in the areas of money laundering, financial literacy, community development, grassroots advocacy, tax and accounting policy, virtual currency, international trade finance, insurance, and health savings accounts. Some of my clients were ABA councils and subsidiaries which required me to make presentations on proactive and reactive media strategies to their stakeholder boards. Additional responsibilities included:

  • Developed communications strategies; refined messaging and talking points around complex legislative and regulatory policy; wrote and pitched traditional PR materials under tight deadlines; and earned media coverage for ABA conferences which involved handling 12-20 reporters onsite, coordinating media scrums and interviews for regulators and other officials

National Association of Manufacturers

Summers of 2009 and 2010
Communications Intern

I was a communications intern for the NAM for the summer of 2009 and was fortunate to be asked back the following summer. My first summer marked the beginning of the organization’s re-branding and website overhaul to shape U.S. manufacturing as  not only critical to the economy but a modern, the innovative, and high-impact industry.

Not only was I fortunate enough to be a part of this beginning process but was able to see how they reached their end product and help implement some of the communications strategies as part of my secnod summer at NAM.

The manufacturing industry was also going through an important time with Obama’s big push on climate change which allowed me to assist in coordinating press briefings and attended meetings with energy and business reporters.

This is just an overview, I'd love to share more with you  >>
